Creamy Raw Chocolate Mousse

I love chocolate, I love everything chocolate.

Unfortunately too much chocolate isn’t good for us, emphasis on unfortunately. Fear not, the following recipe will satisfy any chocolate craving and it won’t leave you feeling guilty about licking the bowl.

It contains all raw ingredients. it’s dairy, gluten, and sugar free (only naturally occurring sugars from the fruits). Not only will this taste great but it’s actually good for you providing vitamins B,C, and E, potassium, fibre, and antioxidants. The avocado contains “good” monounsaturated fat which helps to lower cholesterol. So get to it and whip up a batch, you won’t be disappointed.

Ingredients:

1 ripe Avocado

1 ripe Banana

12 soft dates (soak in water for a few hours if they are quite firm and dry)

3 tbsp Raw Cacao

1 tsp Cinnamon (optional)

Peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts (optional)

Method:

Serves 4

This is extremely easy with a food processor or stick blender. Place the avocado, banana, dates and cacao in the processor bowl, blend on medium for about 4 mins or until completely smooth and all ingredients incorporated. If you’re adding cinnamon or nuts to your mousse you can add them with the other ingredients and blend together,  this will alter the overall flavour of your mousse so I would encourage you to experiment depending on your mood and taste. I like to add a few crushed nuts to the mousse once it’s blended just to give it some nutty texture.

Once it’s lovely, glossy and smooth scoop it into small cups or bowls, cover with cling film and place in the fridge until ready to serve. This doesn’t require setting time, you can eat it straight away (perfect for any chocolate emergency), but letting it chill in the fridge makes it all the bit yummier when you just can’t resist the urge any longer.

Serve on its own or with fresh summer berries.
